The Buckner Mission, Vision, & Beliefs The mission of Buckner Magnet Elementary Teaching the Arts; Performing School is: To insure each child's educational needs will be met through the use of grade level standards and interventions that include integration and exploration of dance, drama, visual arts and music. The vision of Buckner is: An individual's multiple intelligence is activated and strengthened through involvement and teaches them to look at the world around them in new ways. Involvement in, and exposure to, the arts also enables students to improve the quality of their lives by helping them understand, appreciate and create an environment that is functional as well as beautiful. Buckner Performing Arts School is a student-centered program that combines traditional academics with performance education. The Buckner staff believes that: Effective teaching accommodates a broad range of learning styles. The arts are an integral part of educating the whole child. Learning takes place in school, home and community. Individualized instruction will assist students in reaching their full potential. Each student's success will be celebrated. Connecting with community, school and family will build a strong educational foundation. Everyone is entitled to a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment. Everyone has worth and dignity. Buckner values listening to colleagues and students in order to promote understanding. The Buckner staff values showing love by giving of ourselves, our time and our gifts.
The Buckner Difference Buckner has also added a looping component so that teachers in Grades 1 and 4 will follow their students to the next level. Teachers in Grades 2 and 5 will loop back to pick up their next class. District standards for Wichita Public Schools are taught at Buckner and reflected in the District Report card. Children receive additional instruction in art, dance, drama, and music. These subjects are integrated into the regular classroom instruction that the children receive . The infusion of the arts into the core curriculum lends itself very well to our philosophy. District outcomes, adopted textbooks and required tests remain the same as in other elementary schools in the district. Personalized learning, pre-teaching, prevention, immediate intervention, acceleration, cooperative learning, and teaming are techniques used to meet the individual needs of children.
